EPSOM ALTERATION

ALTERATION

This existing house is a 1910 Edwardian Villa that has undergone many previous alterations. Its appearance being a blend of Villa, English Cottage and Bungalow styles.

Previous alterations had removed original detailing and lowered ceilings to create attic bedrooms, resulting in dark and disjointed rooms at Ground Floor level.

A 1950’s Sunroom, facing the street, detracted from the home’s original character, and was isolated from the main living areas, located mostly at the rear of the house. Previous first floor dormers were bulky and sat awkwardly on the roof. A large garage at the back of the property left little room for landscaping, with most of the yard consisting of driveway and vehicle turn-around areas.

The client’s brief was to re-establish a sense of grandeur back into this large home, raise ceiling heights, reinstate previously removed character and detailing, and make the house function as a large family home with spacious living areas that provide good connection to outdoor areas.

Garaging is now located at the front of the property, which has allowed the existing garage to be converted into Pool House/Sleepout. The rear yard is a now fully landscaped, and includes a new swimming pool, vegetable garden, a greenhouse and outdoor entertaining areas.
